Just yesterday evening I watched a programme in which Mary Beard (well known classicist here, don't know about over there), explained how Julius Caesar still influences our lives today. I can't help thinking it a shame that so few children today have the chance to study classics.

I agree with you, madam. As over the years I've read the classics, in translation, alas, I've learned so much about our world today and of course about English literature. You have to have read The Aenaed to understand Paradise Lost. I have Mary Beard's book, SPQR, and it's on the top of my TBR list.
