Here is another Alison Bruce mystery, Siren, and it's easily as good as the first in her Gary Goodhew series (Cambridge Blue.) In fact, because the author doesn't have to spend as much time introducing her returning characters, it's a bit better. It even has a discography. The only thing I could have asked of this book is a map of Cambridge.
At the beginning of the story a young woman named Kimberly catches a glimpse of the news in which it is being reported that a car has been fished from the waters off Spain and there are human remains inside. Kimberly immediately gathers up her two-year-old son and rushes to meet a friend to talk about this situation. The reader has no idea why this is so important to the women.
Leaving her son with her friend, Kimberly prepares to flee. But it isn't long before she realizes her friend's house is on fire. Where is her son? Is he inside? He is not, but the body of her friend is. Who would have wanted to kill her and what is Kimberly hiding from the police? And the reader?
Wonderfully plotted and well cast, this is a delightful puzzle for a mystery fan.

I'm always on the look-out for a good mystery series, plus I love that part of England, so this is a real treat, Mary. Thanks!

This a good series, Karen. I have the next book on reserve at the library.

I must look into this series. I so love an English setting for a mystery series.
I'm sure you already know this, but Endeavor, a prequel to Morse, will be on PBS July 1.

I am so looking forward to it.

Nan, I did not know about Endeavor. Sounds lovely. I liked those early Morse novels.
