I've received one more wonderful Christmas book, Vintage Knitwear for Modern Knitters by Lise-Lotte Lystrup (Thames and Hudson), which I won in a draw over at dovegreyreader.
It was not brought by Santa like the others. Miss Darcy tells me a handsome devil of a cat with an English accent came down the chimney with it. Miss Darcy (below right) had been into the catnip so this isn't an entirely reliable account, but however the book came, here it is, and it's wonderful.
Someone with taste and skill has taken patterns from the 1930s through the 1950s and adapted them to modern taste and provided modern style knitting directions. There are a dozen things I'd like to knit, starting with a bolero that is JUST like one I had as a girl.
