What a gorgeous cover! All I know (from frequent references in various books) is that St. Ives has always had a large community of artists. The cover certainly would indicate that.

Jen, The painting on the cover extends all the way around to the back. It's from "Skidden Hill" (1910) by Claude Francis Barry, of whom I had not previously heard. The frontispiece is an old photo of the same view. It's beautiful.

The cover is a good advertisement for the book itself. Heavy slick paper, lots of photos, maps, quotations, discussion of artists, descriptions of the sea.

Oh no... And I just "picked up a few things" at Barnes & Noble today, too... Oh no...

P.S.: Say "hi" to our UPS man from me...

Mary Ronan Drew

Lisa, You laugh, but I'm sure it's the same UPS man. Great legs, lopsided grin, shock of blond hair, bright blue eyes, half my age.

I got my V&V book from Amazon.com. I heartily recommend it to Woolf afficianados.

I bought this on our last trip to St Ives and have loved it constantly since. Next visit I shall do the trail.

I love to pick up a book deeply connected to the place I'm visiting like this one and St Ives, Dove.

Perhaps you'll take photos next time you visit?

I've never heard of this book, but am off to buy it right now. Beautiful cover, but more exciting is what is inside! Can't wait. Thanks so much for mentioning it.

Nan

Is your copy hc or pb? Amazon seems to have long delivery times on it.

Bluestalking Reader

Gosh, yes, the tanned legs in THOSE SHORTS... Can't wait for summer.

Mary Ronan Drew

Nan, I got a paperback copy of V&V, and yes, Amazon.com makes you wait weeks.

If you want it more quickly you could nip over to England and down to St Ives and pick up a copy there as dove did.

Lisa, the mailman (a girl) was wearing shorts one day this week so our UPS man should be wearing his soon.
