Mary, a book on my to-be-read list for several months now is Charlie Chan: The Untold Story of the Honorable Detective and His Rendezvous with American History by Yunte Huang. Some nominees for the National Book Critic Circle Awards did a reading that was posted online, and Huang's excerpt was fine. I see it is in paperback now. Off to order it. Thanks for reminder.

I read that book a short while ago and thought it was excellent. The whole Charlie Chan story is interesting. I notice the Chinese detective on Hawaii Five-O is called Chan, probably with the real Charlie Chan in mind.
